Zombie Chang

Tokyo

Friday 13th March 2020

Name, where are you from?
MEIRIN (ZOMBIE-CHANG), Tokyo.

What do you do?
Artist.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I’ve not seen many gigs, to be honest, and choosing the best is hard… I should mention the live footage of Chaos UK’s ‘No Security’. A friend told me about them. They are at the top of Oi! punk. I used to get some power watching them getting the crowd amped!

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Punk. I loved it, especially at secondary school. Mentally, I’ve always been a rebel, I would rather do the opposite of what I get told. I don’t quite know whether that came from punks influence on me or if it's just my own personality, which attracted me to punk (laughs).

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
WALL&WALL in Aoyama, Tokyo. It’s got clear sound and is not too spacious, it feels nice and intimate. Although I’m very much into club music currently, I used to like bands a lot and it just reminds me of smaller gig venues.

If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?
The Toy Dolls. I produce my own tracks so let’s mix their crazy trademark sound and sprinkle some pop into it… That’d be interesting because I’m currently experimenting with merging band sounds with club music or electro to make a cool track. ZOMBIE-CHANG feat. The Toy Dolls…that’d be pretty rad you know!

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
The person who writes the songs for Solid Space. I think it’s Maf Vosburgjust want to fiddle synthesizers with him.
