03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Tilde, from Gothenburg, Sweden.

What do you do?
I am an artist and songwriter.

Describe your style in three words?
Spontaneous, comfortable and eclectic.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Jay-Z at Peace & Love in maybe like 2010 and that was just amazing. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
So so hard to choose but I would go with Donny Hathaway and Nina Simone. Simply because they are two of my all-time favourites.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Over the years quite a few I’d say and especially when I was a teenager I’d take a little here and a little there but I don’t think I was ever 100% of anything. I was more an eclectic mix of "poppare" (what we called people listening to indie-pop/emo kind of bands like Broder Daniel in Sweden), punk, rock, hippie and mods.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I’d love to say Nina Simone but then people always say that you shouldn’t meet your heroes or heroines because you will only get disappointed. I’d go with Buddha, that would be something.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
That’s really hard. I think it really goes into everything else around the gig but I really really enjoyed playing in Copenhagen at Mojo Blues bar before Corona in the autumn of 2019. It was just such a good evening, crowd and I love Copenhagen as a city. One day I’ll move there.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Maybe like Irma Thomas? I mean she’s huge but she was always in the shadow of her peers like Aretha Franklin and Etta James.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
I was a huge Carola fan as a kid. I don’t know how that came about really but I probably found some of my mum’s old records and well, it was love at first sight. Or hearing. My favourite was 'Tommy tycker om mig'.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'No Time For Us' by Broder Daniel.

One record you would keep forever?
'Pastel Blues' by Nina Simone - "Sinnerman".

A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Too Much Love Will Kill You' by Queen.

A song you wished you had written?
There are so many but I’d go with 'Reason to Believe' by Rod Stewart. For the playlist - Karen Dalton's version of the song.

Best song to turn up loud?
When it's raining - 'Riders on the Storm' by The Doors or in general 'N.Y State of Mind' by Nas.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'All Night Long' by Lionel Richie.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Silent Shout' by The Knife.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'I Wanna Know What Love Is' by Foreigner.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Not like new new (I’m kinda slow at picking up on new artists) but I’ve been listening a lot to Joy Crookes and Arlo Parks at the moment.
