Name?
Carl Barat

Where are you from?
London

What do you do?
Singer, songwriter, guitarist.

Describe your style in three words?
Suited military punk.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Rage against the Machine at Reading Festival playing 'Bombtrack'.

What guitarists or songwriters would you consider your biggest inspiration?
Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt & Bob Dylan.

If you could make a record with anyone from history?
Charlie Chaplin. His musical accomplishment is little known, He wrote ’Smile’ on the ‘Modern Times' soundtrack which is one of the best songs I know. Humour is also important in song, as it is in life. It would be a belter of a record though.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
David Niven. When I read his Autobiography ’The Moon’s A Balloon' I was desperate to meet him. But he was already dead.

If you could share the bill with any artist past or present?
The Isle of Wight Pop Festival in 1970, for Hendrix, The Doors, Coen, Miles Davis et al. I’d do (almost) anything to have been a part of that.

Carl Barât is best known as the co-frontman of notorious indie rock outfit The Libertines - the seminal band at the forefront of the garage rock revival in the UK during the first years of the new millennium.

His other outfit, Carl Barât & The Jackals, are set to release their new EP 'Harder They Fall' on 26th May 2017 (which you can pre-order here). They will also be touring throughout Summer 2017, ticket details can be found here.

04Playlist Notes

One record you would keep forever?

The Jam/The Beatles… I remember loving ‘Scary Monsters’ by Bowie.

A song lyric that inspires you?
"All you need is love."

'All You Need Is love' by The Beatles.
