Riot Fest

Monday 17th September 2012

Now in its eighth year headquartered in Chicago (with satellite festivals in Brooklyn, Toronto and Dallas), Riot Fest will take over the Congress Theater (14 September) and Humboldt Park (15-16 September) for three days of music, carnival rides and more.

The Congress Theater bill is closest to the punk/hardcore origins of the festival, with a line-up consisting of The Offspring, neo-new wavers Neon Trees, Chicago legends Pegboy and hard rockers Dead Sara. The show starts at 6:45 PM.

Saturday at Humboldt Park (doors open at 11:30 AM) promises an expanded roster with over 20 bands including punk rock marching band Environmental Encroachment, ska group Deals Gone Bad, garage rockers Nobunny, costumed metal maniacs GWAR, Irish punks Dropkick Murphys and hometown headliners Rise Against.

Riot Fest has saved the best bill for its final day (11:30 AM doors), and Stateside is psyched to check out brother-sister duo White Mystery, New Jersey punk trio Screaming Females, psycho-billy pioneers Reverend Horton Heat, Milwaukee’s The Promise Ring, a reunited Jesus & Mary Chain, Gogol Bordello, Elvis Costello & the Imposters and Iggy & the Stooges, featuring the current line-up of Iggy Pop, Scott Asheton, James Williamson and bassist Mike Watt (ex-Minutemen/Firehose).

Like most festival in Chicago, there is a full slate of official after-parties. The highlights include Alkaline Trio at Empty Bottle (14 September; already sold out), Naked Raygun at Subterranean (also 14 September) and long-running ska/punk/funk band Fishbone at Cobra Lounge (16 September).
