03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Bold, individual, unapologetic

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Bill Withers - Lean on Me

I just remember this in a Disney channel movie about buffalos, I was obsessed the moment I heard it.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive - From "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack

So many people think of Punk Rock as a genre of music, I think of it as an attitude. The Bee Gees are the most punk rock band in existence.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Ho99o9 - Knuckle Up

I saw this band in New Jersey of all places on my birthday, my best friend got kicked in the face while wearing a sports bra and I’ll never forget how great she looked.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Boyz II Men - Motownphilly

Just listen to it, you’ll understand.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Lizzo - Tempo (feat. Missy Elliott)

Two women at the top of their game making music for women who the industry has looked down on.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Prince - Raspberry Beret

In the shower screaming it at the top of my lungs.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

Richard Hell - Blank Generation

Oh the angst!

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

OutKast - ATLiens

OutKast as a whole was breaking boundaries of what it meant to be black, to be loud, to be yourself.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Queen - We Are The Champions - Remastered 2011

I ripped my pants playing air guitar to this at a drag bar in Brooklyn, it’s a classic for a reason.
