British womenswear brand Le Kilt was founded by Sam McCoach, whose granny’s handmade kilts sparked a passion for traditional techniques and craftsmanship. McCoach draws on the idea of timeless designs – used, repaired and passed onto the next generation, as well as the punk heroines of the ‘70s and beyond. Le Kilt’s pleated tartan skirt features mother of pearl buttons and the brand’s signature kilt pin – subtle examples of punk DIY styling. The shape is an adaptation of our original pleated tennis skirt. “What I like about the kilt as a piece of clothing is that it’s hard and girly at the same time – which is everything the post-punk movement was about.” McCoach
