03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Fit for dancing.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Super Furry Animals - Ysbeidiau Heulog

This song has played on a loop in my head since the womb. My mum actually went to an SFA gig when she was pregnant with me, so it's been stuck with me ever since.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Florence + The Machine - Patricia

This album is SO good to cry to. It taught me how to be empowered by whirlwind emotions that I used to find really scary. I think sometimes we all need Florence to remind us "it's such a wonderful thing to love" when it seems easier to just shut that part of ourselves down.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Gwenno - Eus Keus?

I last saw Gwenno at Sŵn festival 2018. Most of her set was in Cornish- before this song she explained the chorus in Welsh and English. The way she embraces languages is so interesting to me as a Welsh speaker. I've seen her countless times and she only gets better! Total legend.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf - 2009 Remastered Version

Duran Duran are sonically the sexiest band to have ever existed imo. This song could wake me from a coma, and on some nights it has done just that.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Adwaith - O Dan Y Haenau

Adwaith are such an exciting band, I feel so lucky to have experienced them so early on. This song just feels like it's oozing through your senses, it's gorgeous. Their debut album is absolutely brilliant too and well worth a listen!

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

IDLES - Samaritans

Shouting along to this with close guy friends has led to some really important conversations on how to be more vulnerable and understanding of one another. Idles serve as a brilliantly angry outlet for those of us damaged by toxic masculinity, and for that I'm very grateful.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

Jamie T - If You Got The Money

I was talking to a mate the other day about how we'd forgot how good this album was since our obsession with it as 15 yr olds. We all borrowed the one CD off each other to burn it onto our itunes, then we probably played this and ‘Sheila’ at every house party we ever had.

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

Ezra Furman - Suck the Blood from My Wound

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Ezra Furman started a cult I would join it. This song literally makes me shake. It almost made me break the no swearing rule for this interview.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Big Brother & The Holding Company - Piece of My Heart

Perfect to end the night because absolutely belting along with Janis will use up every ounce of energy you have left.
