03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Zac, Mars (North Yorkshire).

Describe your style in three words?
Holy, Ragged, Shirty.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Sleaford Mods at O2 Brixton. First and only time I’ve seen the Mods, but my Christ did they deliver. Alfie, our drummer, ended up with a concussion after it.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history - who would they be and why?
The Alessi Brothers. The mixup would be rather eclectic.
The Band. True masters of the stage in each and every way- it’d be an honour to share a bill with such a prestigious outfit.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Post-Punk, Ska, Cannibalism.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Without a doubt Socrates. The conversation wouldn’t be very two-sided, I’d just sit back and let him shove wisdom down my throat.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Gotta be The Windmill. You can go there and know that you’re probably going to have a good night. People hang out there to seek out new music as opposed to just seeing bands they like and it’s enriching in this day and age.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Nigel Blackwell. The wit that this man possesses is second to none. I don’t think Half Man Half Biscuit get as much respect and appreciation as they should do.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Sliver' by Nirvana / 'Avenues And Alleyways' by Tony Christie.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'(Get A) Grip [On Yourself]' by The Stranglers.

One record you would keep forever?
'Code:Selfish' by The Fall. Found it in a second-hand shop for £10.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Never could stand that dog.”

From 'Frank’s Wild Years' by Tom Waits.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Where’s Me Jumper?' by Sultans of Ping F.C.

A song you wished you had written?
'Last Year’s Man' by Leonard Cohen.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Rock N Roll Suicide' by David Bowie.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Joe Le Taxi' by Vanessa Paradis.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'After Hours' by Velvet Underground.

Any new bands/artists you are listening to right now?
'The Fire' by The Lemon Twigs.
'Competition' by Italia 90.
'Life of Milo' by Peeping Drexels.
