Museum of Youth Culture:
Arts Lab Pop-Up Exhibition

Museum of Youth Culture have set up shop in London’s Carnaby, selling curated items from independent makers, with a basement exhibition space where you can immerse yourself in the history of youth culture.

The first of its kind, The Museum of Youth Culture was set up to document the attitudes, styles and expressions of youth across the UK. Their aim: to inspire future generations to make their own mark on the world around them.

Despite the world in which we find ourselves, the Museum of Youth Culture have had a busy year, developing their ‘Grown Up in Britain’ initiative which encouraged friends and families to dig out their family photo albums and submit to their ever-growing archive. They’ve now proudly launched a pop-up shop and exhibition space with an ambitious education programme.

Based in Fouberts Place in London’s Carnaby district, Museum of Youth Culture’s pop-up shop brings together a curated selection of youth culture posters, clothing, books and other products from photographers, creatives and independent makers. Once you’ve had a browse, you can head downstairs to their basement and explore the exhibition space and its photos, flyers and ephemera documenting British youth over the years. Non-Londoners can still have a browse online, as Museum of Youth Culture launch their first online shop. Every purchase made is a donation to the museum, supporting their incredible preservation and community work.

As we enter 2021, the pop-up space will transform into a gallery and alternative education space, taking inspiration from the post-war Arts Lab movement founded on Drury Lane in the ‘60s. As ever, the project will focus on today’s youth, as well as underrepresented artists in the community. Their educational hub will incorporate live-streaming to accommodate for our new – virtual – way of life. Stay tuned for more info.

Museum of Youth Culture: Arts Lab is open now until March 2021. Visit their online museum shop here
