03Interview

Name, where are you from?
NewDad, Galway City.

Describe your style in three words?
Gloomy, comfy, swag.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Cure at Malahide, massive inspiration to us and was the first gig we all went to together. And Robert Smith has still got it.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
Blur and Oasis. We’d love to be right in the middle.

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Skate culture is something I owe a lot of my musical influences to. I’ve found pretty much all my favourite songs from watching skate videos.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Julian Casablancas. His music is great and he’s just an interesting dude! Would love to know how his brain works!

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Our local pub/music venue in Galway is the Róisín Dubh. I’ve seen so many great acts go through there growing up and it’s always such a thrill to play there.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
SOPHIE helped bring niche electronic sounds and the concept of PC music into the mainstream. She also lead the way for trans representation in the music industry and her legacy, as well as her inspiration of so many others can be seen in every facet of modern pop music.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'JCB' by Nizlopi. One of the first CDs any Irish child had growing up. Always play it at least five times in a row.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Eyes on Fire' by Blue Foundation. This song was my first introduction to kinda gloomy dreamy music and my love grew from there, also was in Twilight, very epic soundtrack all round.
'Seventeen' by Peach Pit. Just a very fun song about being silly which we all related to as teenagers.

One record you would keep forever?
'Abysmal Thoughts' by The Drums. This whole album is just phenomenal from start to finish.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush. I've always loved Kate Bush's lyrics and think this song is one of her best.

A song you wished you had written?
'Horror Head' by Curve. I just think this is the most perfect song ever, it's so dreamy and shoegazey but is still super catchy. An ethereal masterpiece tbh.

Best song to turn up loud?
'anthems' by Charli XCX. Can’t really say much more than it’s a banger. ILY Charli.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Won’t Bite' by Doja Cat. This is a tune!

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Wow' by Kylie Minogue. It's my go-to party song, Kylie is amazing.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Grandpop’s Uke' by Forrest, Biskwiq. Always listen to this at the end of a rager. Just puts the mind and body in a good place before going to bed.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
'Angel Landing' by Pretty Sick. Pretty Sick write some of the best alternative pop songs out there at the moment.
