Established in Northampton in 1906, George Cox are known for their exceptional craftsmanship and connection to British subcultural movements. Today we’ve been working on a series of collaborative pieces, taking influence from the shoemakers’ archive, as well as our own. Inspired by the DIY styling of punk, we rework the original tassel loafer in a distressed full-grain leather, with a Laurel Wreath pin badge at the centre. The tasselled lip takes its cue from the original penny loafer – which acquired its name after students started to keep penny coins within the fold. The cost of a phone call at the time, the penny inside their loafer would be used to phone home in the event that their night out turned sour.
