Genre-defying duo Curses heads to Russia for two knock-out Subculture Lives in two days.

Headed up by established DJ and producer Luca Venezia, Curses is a Berlin-via-Brooklyn incarnation, blurring genres for a completely unique sound.

On first appearances, Venezia and co. look pure rockabilly, with slick-back hair and flash tattoos, but their sound seamlessly brings together a range of influences, with new-wave, German techno and Italo disco all playing a part. The duo’s signature ghostly vocals make way for sporadic moments of intensity, with heavy guitar riffs and strong vocals.

Performing at the historic Saint-Petersburg venue Kuznya House on Friday, support came from local trailblazers in the Russian electronic scene, with DJ sets from Kito Jempere, KNFPRTY, Anton Berezin of Seven Knives, Lovvlovver and Theo Dear.

The following day, Curses touched down in Moscow to play at Profsoyuz, an intimate bar in the South of the city. Alongside Kito Jempere and KNFPRTY, local DJ Ildar Iksanov joined the line-up for their final night.
