Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit is Courtney Barnett's debut album, out now on Mom+Pop Music, and available to purchase here

Following up from the critically lauded The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in 2013, Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit cements Barnett’s standing as one of the most distinctive voices in indie rock, mixing witty, often hilarious observations with devastating self-assessment.

The Melbourne-based artist instantly stands out with her distinctive voice. Emphasizing her thick Australian accent, Courtney Barnett's songs tell stories of whimsical characters, full of witty lyricisms and anecdotes about unavoidable perils of societal interrelations, and awkward pitfalls of 21st-century living. With her songwriting ability embracing wry turns of phrase and caustic humour, Barnett is 'slacker pop' at its finest. Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit spans subjects such as depressing rentals, dead foxes, organic vegetable purchases, go-nowhere relationships and dead end suburbs.

Opening track 'Elevator Operator' is marching, lo-fi pop, similar to Avi Buffalo and Best Coast, while 'Pedestrian at Best' is speak-singing, punk-rock infused, punchy scuzz-indie. With bellowing lyrics outlining angst and disharmony, Courtney cries "Put me on a pedestal, and I'll only disappoint you". The video depicts Courtney dressed as a troubled clown, disappointed with herself as a phony, and fake.

'An Illustration of Loneliness (Sleepless in New York)' is a more melodic piece, laden with Britpop elements drawing comparisons to early Blur and Pulp, while 'Depreston' is a more laid-back Americana/Country, Neil Young-esque track, outlining the bleakness and boredom of lower-middle class Australian suburbia.
