Toronto-based group Grounders has dropped a video for "Secret Friend," the opening track on their debut, self-titled LP (released 12 May by Nevado Records). The clip was animated by band member Daniel Busheikin and features, according to Grounders publicist, “digitally rotoscoped visuals that capture familiar movements and moments through thousands of individually made frames, presenting a hallucinatory mirror of our daily life.”
Grounders’ (Andrew Davis (vocals and guitar), Daniel Busheikin (keyboards), Mike Searle (bass) and Evan Lewis on guitar) first full-length follows 2013’s Wreck of a Smile EP and takes inspiration from David Bowie, Devo, Velvet Underground, Neu! and the Zombies.
The album was demoed in Davis's bedroom in Toronto's High Park neighbourhood and in a garage loaded with vintage gear before the band headed into the studio with Marcel Ramagnano (Born Ruffians, Absolutely Free) to record. Months later, Grounders brought on David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck) for the mix and Joe Lambert for mastering.
