The former Verve singer returns with his long awaited new album 'These People' which is set to be released Friday 20th May on his new Righteous Phonographic Association label via Cooking Vinyl Records.
Recorded in London, 'These People' will be the prodigious songwriters first new album in six years. It was produced by Ashcroft with his long-time collaborator Chris Potter and also saw him reunite with Wil Malone, both of whom worked with him on the classic Verve Albums 'A Northern Soul' and 'Urban Hymns', as well as his platinum-selling solo debut album 'Alone With Everybody'.
Ashcroft also made his live return to the UK when he played sold out shows on 14th May at Albert Hall in Manchester, 16th May at the Roundhouse in London, and 27th May at the O2 Academy in Glasgow. The Brit and Ivor Novello award winning artist is also set to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival as a special guest of headliners The Who.
In a press release, he said that watching personal and world events take a darker turn compelled him to record the album, which successfully led to a "sense of urgency and a clearing of the mind." While These People addresses such topics as the war in Syria, the Arab Spring uprisings and the death of a friend, it also brims with hope and defiance, as evidenced in the anthemic and sweeping crescendo of new single ‘Hold On’.
