Name, where are you from?
Steve Mason, I'm from Fife in Scotland.
Describe your style in three words?
Anywhere. Everywhere. Forward.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
AC/DC at Wembley Stadium in 1999. They just make every other band that has walked onto a stage and played look like a joke. They are the biggest and they are the best.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
James Brown because he is the King of Funk Soul Brother No.1 and The Cramps because I never got to see them and they are one of my favourite bands.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Mod, Rudeboy, Punk, Acid House, Scooter scene. Almost every British youth culture influenced me. Because of the clothes and music. Every single one is unique and leads you down a path to unknown places, very exciting.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Nikola Tesla. He holds the most design patents for any single human being. A true genius who had ideas and theories over 100 years ago which shaped our current world. After he died the American government stole all his papers. He wanted free energy for all and knew how to make that happen but nobody would back this idea. Tragic.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Glasgow Barrowlands. Nobody roars like Glaswegians! It has a sprung dancefloor so the crowd literally bounces while you are playing.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mary Love who was a Soul singer in the mid-1960's. She made very few recordings but is one of my favourite singers ever. Some people just never make it but if they are lucky they leave a little footprint in the sand of life.
‘Stars Around My Heart’ is the first single to be released from Steve Mason’s new album ‘About The Light’, which is out on Double Six on 18th January 2019. Steve has also announced a run of U.K. shows around the release of the record.
