Taichi Kodama

What do you do?
Musician / Actor

Where are you from?
Aichi / Tokyo

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Rolling Stones at Tokyo Dome in 2014, I went twice. It was the first gig for me and I was surprised to see that they didn’t discuss how to finish each tune. Every song ended member by member without any discipline - the audience was laughing. I also thought how they unite together as a band, with each member having a very strong character.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
‘Quadrophenia’. When I was 15, I watched this film and learnt about the British subculture and Mod for the first time. I knew the Beatles before then, but I got to know bands like The Who through this film.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo, simply because it was the largest one for me. I played there as an opener at a fashion show, and it was exhilarating.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Though I don’t think I deserve to play with these great musicians, Jimmy Page would be my choice from Rock, when he was at his peak during 'Led Zeppelin IV'. My other choice would be Bert Jansch from the acoustic genre.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I’d like to compose with John Lennon playing the guitar and know how he comes up with ideas.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
As I said earlier, Bert Jansch, who is Scottish folk singer. His sound is a little gloomy but he influenced the likes of Jimmy Page.
