Name, where are you from?
We are ST.MARTiiNS, a two-piece band from Dundee, Scotland.

Describe your style in three words?
Cheap And Nasty.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Katie: ANOHNI at the Playhouse in Edinburgh.
Mark: Bombay Bicycle Club at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Associates and The Cure. I would love to see both of those bands live and it would just be really loud and cool.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Katie:
Post-modern authors actively influence my work. I am also extremely influenced by feminist collectives, artists and authors.
Mark: Trekkies.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Katie:
Mina Loy the poet. I actually base so much of my style on her and her poetry has influenced so much of my own work and ideology. I would love to know if the reasons behind her work match my interpretations.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
We played in the grounds an old art institute in Arbroath called Hospitalfields which was amazing. It was beautiful weather and the whole evening had a really nostalgic, late summer feeling to it.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mark:
Chet Atkins. ‘Mister Sandman’ makes me so sad in a good way.
Katie: James Grant from Love & Money. ‘Walk The Last Mile’ is probably one of my favourite songs.

Katie Lynch and Mark Johnston (aka ST.MARTiiNS) combine their love of electronica, jazz, indie and pop to create something entirely their own, drifting effortlessly between joy and melancholy.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Mark:
Probably something by Puddle of Mud.
Katie: Something either by Steps or Crowded House. I had no in-between at the age of like 10.

A song that defines the teenage you?
Mark:
‘Dope Nerd’ by Kiefer.
Katie: ‘Total Zombie’ by Day Wave.

One record you would keep forever?
Mark:
 'Total Life Forever' by Foals.
Katie: 'Disintegration' by the Cure.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Mark:
"The point is besides the point now" from 'Point' by The Districts.
Katie: "See the months they don’t matter, it’s the days I can’t take, when the hours turn to minutes and I’m seconds away" from 'New American Classic' by Taking Back Sunday.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
Mark:
‘Voulez-Vous’ by Abba.
Katie: ‘You Make My Dreams' by Hall and Oates.

A song you wished you had written?
Mark:
‘Sky Took Hold’ by Grizzly Bear.
Katie: ‘Familiar’ by Agnes Obel.

Best song to turn up loud?
Mark:
Again, ‘Voulez-Vous’ by Abba.
Katie: ‘Prom’ by SZA.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Mark:
Dua Lipa’s entire debut album.
Katie: ‘Love It If We Made It’ by The 1975. Can’t believe it myself.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Mark:
‘She’s Just A Phase’ by Puma Blue.
Katie: ‘Think Too Much, Feel Too Little’ by JAWS.

Any new bands you are listening to right now?
