Name, where are you from?
Ussy (Ryosuke Ushio), Tokyo.

What do you do?
Art student/Artist.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Thom Yorke. FUJI ROCK 2019 was the first time I have heard him playing live which was absolute bliss hearing his mystical vocal in nature at around 11pm was the best thing in itself.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Skinhead. Just when I finished my college entrance exams, I got into renting DVDs based on the cover, and I happened to rent the movie 'This Is England' from TSUTAYA. I became fascinated with Skinhead fashion, and I went from being a high school baseball player with sporty buzz cut to 'Cool’ skinhead. I was so firmly influenced that I got #1 length for the first time in my life, I then had a #0 length (laughs). I am letting my hair grow out now, but I would want to shave it and get the aggressive look again.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Aoyama Hachi, I really like its cosy vibe there. I have done live painting at this party organized by a friend that does DJing. I painted bare hands on a big canvas while drenched in quality music. That was heart-stirring.

If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?
This is going to be pure imagination though, I would like to create a short animation for the 'Eclipse' with Roger Waters and a script by the man himself during the making of Pink Floyd’s 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Spend an hour with The Beatles right before their very first show in Japan munching on penny snacks.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Stats. Their electronically induced sound with up-tempo beats get me going.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Let It Be' by The Beatles.

A song that defines the teenage you?
The Score 'Up'.

One record you would keep forever?
'The Dark Side Of The Moon' by Pink Floyd. It’s an absolute album that takes me into the delusional state. Rich in ideas to take inspirations from.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun…"

From 'Time' by Pink Floyd.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Whatever' by Oasis.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
I do like playing Fatboy Slim.

New bands you are listening to now?
Goat Girl. I’ve started listening to the band recently and I’m already getting hooked.
