Describe your style in three words.
Comfortable, durable, workwear.
What was your all-time favourite gig?
Neil Young at the 02, July of this year.
Which British subculture means the most to you?
At the moment, I am really into the grey area of the late 60s British music when psychedelia, Canterbury Scene bands and psych folk was all kicking off. Syd Barret, Soft Machine, Kevin Ayers, Fairport Convention etc.
How should your music be listened to?
Pick a format, relax and listen to the album the whole way through and give it your undivided attention, can't ask for much more than that!
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
I think we've always found inspiration in a lot of the playing of post punk - new wave acts of the late 70s and early 80s. The first 2 or 3 albums by the Cure are a real inspiration in some of our guitar work and lyrics and indeed the bass and drums, they're a really great blueprint. Discovering a musician called Martin Newell who made lofi pop songs under the name 'Cleaners from Venus' in Wivenhoe in the 1980s was a really important part of making up our sound. He's not an icon in the traditional sense, more of an anti hero! Some of our song structures def nod in the direction of British 60s Beat music too... Zombies, Beatles, Hollies etc. Classic stuff.
If you could share the bill with any British band in history – who would it be?
Cream. I'd love to watch them play 'Badge'
