Blondey McCoy

Artist — London

Name
Blondey McCoy

Where are you from?
London

What do you do?
Artist, designer, skateboarder.

Describe your style in three words.
Beautiful, Chemical Imbalance.

What’s the story behind Thames?
Almost identical to that of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights.

What are you working at the moment?
Planning a party for Fred Perry.

What was the first song you played on repeat?
‘Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.’

Which music defines the teenage you?
Well, there isn’t one genre… skateboard videos, where a handful of skateboarders all skate to music that best represents them introduced me to a wide range.

A song from your favourite album?
I have too many favourite albums.

A song you wish you’d written?
I’m not a lyricist. An album name that I wish I had come up with is ‘Mediocre Generica’ by the band ‘Leftover Crack’, whose impossible band name is just as good as the album's.

A British icon or band who inspires you?
George Michael.

What is the last piece of music you bought?
I booked a room for 15 at Karaoke Box on Frith street last week.

Most meaningful lyrics to inspire change?
‘Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes’, Bowie.

Best song to bring people together?
‘Come Together’, off Screamadelica.

What has been your all-time favourite gig?
I enjoyed The Stone Roses the other week.

Best love song of all time?
I can't answer that as there isn't one. By way of compensation, a fun fact: Bjorn wrote ‘The Winner Takes it All’ from the perspective of Agnetha from her perspective, about him being the winner in their breakup. For her to sing. Beauty.

Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
No, I’m quite open about what I like. A song people might pretend to not like… ‘Borderline’ by Madonna.

What new music are you listening to?
The XX are the only current band I’m really aware of… I think Romy is really good. I also love my friend Jack and my friend Georgia.
