Ella Zheng

Graphic Designer / Illustrator — Singapore

Name, where are you from?
Ella Zheng, Singapore.

What music defines the teenage you?
Emo Music. I am an only child, I grew up being very protected by my parents. Every little thing I did needed my parents' permission and I resented that. I often blast My Chemical Romance on my Sony CD boombox (which I am still using) and sung as loudly as I can as a form of protest.

A song from your favourite album?
'I Dare You' by The XX. I love the lyrics and I also love the music video. Young adolescents, young love. The music created by The XX is so calming, a little nostalgic and very captivating.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Doses & Mimosas' by Cherub. All-time favourite.

What new music are you listening to?
LION BABE. Spotify helped me discover LION BABE and I am really liking what I hear.

What are you working on at the moment?
A mentor and close friend of mine recently commissioned me to created an art piece for her new house. I started out scared and excited at the same time. However, as of now, I am enjoying the process of how the piece is coming together.

'With You' – fFion.
I chose this song as it embodies my relationship with my husband.

'3 Days' by Rhye.
I chose this song as I have been stuck to it for the longest time and Rhye's voice is so beautiful.

'8' by Willow.
I chose this song because I love drowning in Willow's voice.

'Rumours' by fFion.
I chose this song because I love her attitude towards the situation.

'Sober' by Childish Gambino.
The youtube thumbnail of this video caught my eye and earlier this year, that was the first time I discovered Donald Glover. Better late than never. I chose this song because it is electrifying.

'The Wave' by LION BABE feat. Leikeli47.
I chose this song as it is a new song that has me grooving. I love how she raps and wish I could rap too.

'Disco Tits' by Tove Lo.
I chose this song for its playful nature, it is very different from her other songs.

'Ride' by Twenty One Pilots.
I chose this song because I relate deeply with it and these guys are awesome, their songs are so deep.

'So Fast, So Maybe' by K.Flay.
I chose this upbeat song as it reminds me that life is too short to not enjoy it.

'Heavy' by POWERS.
I chose this song because it's my sing and groove song currently.

'Bellyache' by Billie Eilish.
I chose this great song as it reminds me of all the murder documentaries I listen to when I work.

'LOYALTY' by Kendrick Lamar feat. Rihanna.
I chose this song as it reminds me of the tight bond I have with a bunch of awesome friends I have from LASALLE. As a collective, we are known as Yesteryear.
