What do you do?
I play guitar and sing in a band called Kagoule.

Where are you from?
Nottingham, UK!

Describe your style in three words?
Middle aged Dad, f.r.i.e.n.d.s, wedding singer.

Which subcultures have had an enduring effect on you?
So I spent the first half of my life into U.K. grime and hip hop but something happened when I was about 12 that sent me into the world of punk rock (pretty much overnight).
One I wish I could have been around for was the Washington punk scene of the early '90s.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Maybe someone like Leonardo da Vinci. I’d get him stoned and give him an iPhone and see what happened. Or Mozart and set em up on Logic.

Another you? Any other career that would have appealed?
Another me? Hmm... probably some kinda millionaire hotshot stockbroker gambling casino overlord arm wrestling world champion plane flying maths genius. But I decided to play in a sloppy rock band instead.

Best Gig you have ever been to?
Best gig was probably Slint and The Brudenell! Never thought I’d get to see them play ever.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
My favourite show was in Paris at La Mécanique Ondulatoire. It was just such a cool place and the show was so vibey. I’ll never forget it!

Nottingham trio Kagoule recently announced a headline tour for November, which includes a show at London’s The 100 Club. On all dates, Kagoule will be supported by Glasgow’s Catholic Action.

Kagoule's latest ‘Monsieur Automaton’ is out now and the band are currently finishing the follow-up to their acclaimed 2015 debut album Urth.

04Playlist Notes

First track you played on repeat?
I think it might have been Eminem when I first started listening to music ‘on repeat’ when I got my first MP3 player back in the day.

Song that defines the teenage you?
It’s gonna have to be Korn - 'Coming Undone'.

What was the last piece of music you bought?
The last record I bought was the new 'IV' by Part Chimp. Heavy stuff!

One record you would keep forever?
A record I’ll never part with is The Breeders - 'Last Splash'.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Too many to pin it down to one but Leonard Cohen’s lyrics are truly beautiful Leonard Cohen - 'The Stranger Song'.

A song that people wouldn’t expect you to like?
I never really think of it that way but maybe stuff that’s least accessible is things like Pentangle - 'Cruel Sister', although they’ve inspired me a whole lot!

A song you wished you had written?
I used to always wish I had written ‘A day In The Life’ by The Beatles. Absolutely beautiful song.

Any new bands you are listening to right now?
I’ve been enjoying Drahla, Willie J Healey, Catholic Action, Fazerdaze to name a few!
