Girl Fight Records

Slaves launch their own label

Thursday 8th February 2018

In July 2012, Kent duo Isaac & Laurie released their first EP as Slaves. It was a mini album titled 'Sugar Coated Bitter Truth' which, halfway through, had a 15-second track called 'Girl Fight'.

It is this blink-and-you'll-miss-it, blisteringly punk outburst of a track that Slaves have decided to name their new independent record label after.

"We put our first EP out on a made up label, Girl Fight Records. Since then we often spoke about making it legit and putting out bands for real. So when the right band came along and we were in the position to do so, we thought  f*ck it, let’s do it."
- Isaac

The label has been set up so that Slaves can support the bands and music that they love. In a statement, they said, "Girl Fight aims to be about great bands, big tunes and a DIY ethic inherited from the band’s punk rock roots."

Girl Fight's inaugural release will be an EP from fellow Tunbridge Wells dwelling trio Lady Bird. They play a unique brand of story-telling punk with heavy nods to Mike Skinner and Ian Dury, as well as Coxon's guitar work.

The first track taken from the unique punk three piece's debut is called 'Spoons' and is described as "a gutters eye-view of a night out in a branch of a certain chain pub."
