Our round-up below defines the cream of new British talent. Bands that will definitely become part of your playlists across 2017 and beyond.

Welcome to the British New Wave:

CABBAGE

Anti-establishment, social commentators, the Manchester post-punkers released a trilogy of EP's this year. One of the key bands set to emerge in 2017.

BLACKWATERS
Guildford

Taking influences from British punk circa ’76. And rebooting it for a new generation. Capturing the essence of disaffected youth.

TRUDY & THE ROMANCE

Well crafted vintage indie pop songs, with the rough and readiness of garage rock. Self-described as mutant 50s pop.

GOAT GIRL
London

London 4-piece recently signed to Rough Trade, playing dark and guttural indie.

DECLAN MCKENNA

Hertfordshire

17-year-old singer-songwriter with a true voice. Indie that's topical, political and relevant.

HMLTD
London

Experimental, energetic post-punk - remixed with Glam and re-presented as some of the best live shows in the UK.

THE ORIELLES

Halifax

Spaced out indie with hints of surf, garage and psych - recently signed to Heavenly Recordings.

The UK rap starlet who's been taking the scene by storm with her razor-sharp rhymes.

THE AMERICAS

Birmingham

Infectious indie rock n roll from the west midlands trio with a big buzz around them right now.

JAMIE ISAAC
London

Trip-hop style electronic elements with Jazz beats and soulful vocals. Produced by his flat-mate and collaborator King Krule.

SHE DREW THE GUN
Liverpool

Atmospheric indie pop that featured on our Liverpool Sound blog and rightful winners of the Glastonbury emerging talent competition this year.

THE AMAZONS
Reading

Heavy indie rock n roll that's ready to fill stadiums. Their track 'In My Mind' was chosen by us as one of 2016's Best Music Moments.

SHAME

London

Post-punk taking cues from Mark E Smith and following firmly in footsteps of Fat White Family.

JAGARA
London

3 sisters from London making funky, 80's, synth-driven electronica.

Psychedelic-tinged folk-pop with wonderful vocal harmonies and strings, based in the former docklands of East London.

BAD SOUNDS

Bath

90s baggy beats with brass and old school hip-hop vibes. Shades of early Beck are apparent too.

PILLOW PERSON
London

Captivating electro-pop from the first solo venture of Hot Chip's drummer Sarah Jones.

ZUZU
Liverpool

Punk-infused Indie pop brimming with swagger and attitude, earning favourable comparisons to Australian counterpart Courtney Barnett.

London

Noisy London punk trio, who featured on our New Noise 2016 blog, look set to continue their meteoric rise following critical acclaim over their debut 'Alas, Salvation'.

INHEAVEN

London

One of The Strokes Julian Casablancas new favourite bands. Respectfully borrowing a little choreography from ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ check out INHEAVEN’s recent track ‘Treats’.

TRAAMS

TRAAMS remain one of the most successfully experimental guitar bands on the scene. See them in early 2017, touring with Bo Ningen.

FISH
London

For fans of ‘Gish’ era Smashing Pumpkins and early Hole. Grunge influenced British alternative rock.

LUXURY DEATH
Manchester

Boyfriend, girlfriend duo Ben Thompson and Meg Williams started Luxury Death as a hobby, but before long the band had become a fully fledged project, sounding like a modern British Sonic Youth.

BRIGHT YOUNG PEOPLE
Rhyl

Another exciting rock n roll guitar band to sign to Gary Powell’s excellent label, 25 Hour Convenience Store.

IDLES
Bristol

Unrelenting hard new-wave/post-punk five-piece with a penchant for brutalist architecture.

Demonstrating their reserved yet emotive brand of guitar based indie-rock, ’Formidable’ appears on The Big Moon’s debut album ’Love In The 4th Dimension’.

DEAD PRETTIES
London

For fans of Mark E. Smith (the man, and Fat White Family’s ode to him).

CASSELS

Oxfordshire

‘Hating is Easy’, but it’s hard not too like Cassels’ combination of heavy monolithic guitar riffs and indie sensibility.

DAN OWEN

A young singer-songwriter with a soaring high altitude voice. Catch him on his headline UK tour in Spring 2017.

DANTEVILLES
Manchester

A modern indie-pop band, Dantevilles’ ‘Perfect Place’ got them a slot in Subculture’s Manchester Sound - Part 2, earlier in the year. NME described the song as 'executed with spitting-cobra precision’.

GIRL RAY
London

‘Where I Am’ is the b-side to Girl Ray’s debut single ‘Trouble’, released through Moshi Moshi and selling out almost immediately. Dreamy harmonies and instantly endearing indie guitars.

XAMVOLO

London

Progressive neo-soul fusing jazz grooves with dark electronic elements.

DREAM WIFE

London

New wave riot grrrl punks with a dash of electroclash, taking in diverse inspiration such as Blondie, Peaches, Spice Girls and Karen O.
