Daniel Kirk

Scunthorpe

Name, where are you from?
Daniel Kirk, Scunthorpe.

Describe your style in three words:
Que Será, Será.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The first time I saw Fat White Family at Leeds Fest 2014 is up there. I'd been to Leeds a couple of times before but up until that year hadn't strayed too far away from the larger stages, after listening to the album on repeat in the months beforehand and reading about the general debauchery of the band online they definitely lived up to the hype.

Which new British bands are you listening to at the moment?
There seems to be an abundance of exciting Post-punk bands around at the minute so my tastes have been heavily swaying towards that, I'm listening to a lot of IDLES, Insecure Men, Blue Bendy, HMLTD and Sports Team.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I grew up skating as a kid so my influences were dictated by a lot of the big Pop-punk bands of the early 2000's when I was young, after that, I hit a big Indie phase in my teens. I'd say these influences are the starting block as to where my taste is today but I'd like to hope that by keeping up with contemporary bands and tracing their influences back through genres like Shoegaze, Lo-Fi and Psychedelia, has left me with a more diverse palate.
