FRANCIS was founded in 2006 as a cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Since then the band has acted both Samaritan and the Reaper for childhood friends Petra Mases, Petter Nygårdh, Jerker Henriksson and Tim Grundtman.
The debut album came less than a year ago, but productivity has its explanation. Like a fully loaded backpack that got taken off, LEKOMBERG, WE WERE KIN was released in June 2011 and the band was able to start writing new music. This, together with a successful European tour with THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH, was the inspiration that was enough to quickly start a new recording.
Together with sound engineer Jakob Grundtman, FRANCIS built a temporary studio in a big storage for boats on an island, not far from where they all grew up. The producer role was on this occasion also given to the film director Johan Stolpe who previously made the band’s music videos. All the music was made on site, which has set a distinctive character from both the location and its contributors.
FRANCIS has its origins in the stomping folk and blues, morphed into a more rhythmic and experimental pop sound. The new material on THIS MUST BE BLOOD is as melancholic as it is colourful and dancable, and the record is flooding with the same energy that can be experienced in the band’s live shows.
FRANCIS is your band if you want it to be. But if you are willing to take in, you must also be willing to give. Francis does not aim to please, but is your best friend if you allow it.
