Many out there may be unaware that this coming Saturday is in fact a day in which WWF initiate earth hour, the world's largest campaign for action to protect the planet. At 8.30pm, those who have a keen concern for the damaging environmental effects caused by excessive consumption of energy will be switching off their lights of an hour. This may just be a small dent in aiding the awareness of wasting energy, but it is a significant one none the less. So in celebration of this potentially world changing event, The Guillemots, along with support from Robyn Hitchcock, Oliver Coates, Luke wright and many more, will be playing special acoustic sets, light by candlelight, in the vast space that is Village Underground.
Now spanning 135 countries, WWF's Earth Hour is a fantastic way to show awareness that we all in fact actually do care about protecting the environment and the damaging effect that we can have on it. Meeting them at Dot to Dot 2011, we must say that if it were going to be any band to put on such a show in support of a great cause, it had to be Guillemots, who really are a caring bunch. Fyfe from the band commented about the event..."Earth Hour is an inspiring and powerful idea and we're really pleased to be supporting this global wide event. Get involved and turn your lights off!" For those who find acoustic sessions a bit wishy washy, never fear, as this is not your usual gentle strum along session. The two nights will range from psychedelic songwriting legend, Robyn Hitchcock to ground breaking cellist Oliver Coates. Spoken word will also take a prevalence as punk-poet laureate John Hegley and Aisle16 poet Luke Wright. You could say that there is a little something for people of all tastes...well, at least good taste. You can book tickets here for £17.50, which for what you will be getting is a steal, plus, you won't be paying extra for the electricity bill. Positive Blackout will be on at Village Underground on the 30th and 31st of March from 7pm. You can check out our exclusive footage and Interview from 2011 Dot to Dot here to get you in the mood.
