Husky Loops

London

Name, where are you from?
Hi, I’m Danio. From Bologna, Italy. Based in London, England.

Describe your style in three words?
Simple, chic, black.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
It would be a very hard battle between Jack White, Solange and Frank Ocean. I’d probably choose Jack White because Carla Azar’s drumming was phenomenal and even though the sound wasn’t too good in Hammersmith Apollo, her loud drums made everything super great, her performance was so great. We became friends after that show too, so it’s a good memory to have. And Jack White’s energy is always mesmerising.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
I want to live and experience my generation and the present, I love mostly all music from "the past" but I think it’s silly that we keep relating to music that was made before we were even born so much, so… I’d pick some alive and kicking musicians!
And I think Husky Loops would be absolutely great next to Flying Lotus and Frank Ocean. Just because we’d be able to deliver diversity, intense music, great songwriting and a great live show.
I know they aren’t bands, but I’m bored of only playing before and after bands just because we make so-called 'guitar music'. I think that should change, we’re living in a period where people clearly love different genres and different moods.
Husky Loops often have guests on stage, from rappers to jazz musicians and no one has ever complained about it, actually, people have a great time.
Shoutout to Frank Ocean, I think he’s the best songwriter alive today.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I think all subcultures meant something to us, also because of the internet, it’s so easy to learn about them. They all inspired us unconditionally, as musicians me Pietro and Tom literally listen to everything, all genres. Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae, Disco, House… all you can think of except probably extreme Metal we’ve been listening to. We all grew up listening to British music and really really got inspired by UK bands in the early days but we were never part of any scene and we are all from Bologna, and there’s no a thing such a “scene” there or a movement.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history
David Bowie. I would just learn so much. It’d be incredible if I could spend even twenty minutes with him.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Probably VEGA in Copenhagen, it’s just a beautiful hall and it’s all made of wood and all designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen apparently, it sounds and looks fantastic. We played there before The Kills.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Lucio Battisti. Well, he’s not unsung in Italy, but in the rest of the world he is. And he’s a genius.
