Introduce yourself
My name is Ian Loh and I’m a Fashion Stylist.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Urban, tonal & (a little bit of) fun.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
I think it’s an iconic piece of clothing with a lot of heritage to it.

When did you first dabble in the creative field?
When I first joined Esquire Malaysia as a Fashion Writer in 2013.

What inspires your work?
People, story-telling, graphic designs and of course, fashion.

What is the first song you played on repeat?
My parents took us on a lot of road trips when we were young, and I remembered the song Norwegian Forest (挪威的森林) by Wu Bai (伍佰) & China Blue was on repeat a lot.

Who is your ultimate British musical icon?
David Bowie.

What was the best gig you’ve been to?
A friend brought me to an underground gig in Bushwick, Brooklyn in New York a couple years ago. It was at someone’s basement of a brownstone and it was packed with people. The indie musicians who played were really good too!

A song that defines the teenage you?
Growing up in a small town in Johor, I listened to a lot of mando-pop; but I don’t necessarily think there is one song that could define my teenage years.

What bands have you been listening to recently?
I’ve been listening to a Thai singer called Phum Viphurit lately and a South African band called Faka, whom I discovered during a recent Versace show.
