Inna De Yard - 'The Soul of Jamaica'

All star Jamaican reggae outfit

Tuesday 28th May 2019

Recorded outdoors in the hilltops and back yards of Kingston, Inna De Yard began as a project by the Makasound label to create a series of field recordings around Bob Marley's home territory. The result is an unrivalled coming together of Jamaican soul and roots-reggae that promotes the spiritual nature and unifying potential of Jamaican music. After making eight albums with this ethos the players decided to form a live band.

Inna De Yard is now a unique project that comprises Jamaican musical legends Cedric Myton, Winston McAnuff, Ken Boothe and Kiddus I. Recorded in just four days the all-star collective captured 'The Soul Of Jamaica', a collection of 13 reworked iconic Jamaican songs.

The album also features veterans and newcomers of the scene such as Judy Mowatt, Horace Andy, Jah9, Var, Derajah and The Viceroys, introducing them to a new audience as well as delighting committed reggae fans.

The short yet productive four-day session was filmed by Oscar-nominated director Peter Weber, capturing yet another perspective of this unmissable convergence of Jamaican culture. The film is to be presented at Cannes on 6th June with a live set from the band, followed by a live show at Paris' famous Olympia on 15th June.

In the UK the film will premiere at Somerset House as part of the Film 4 Summer Screen on August 21st before appearing in UK cinemas from August 31st.
