Novella are London-based trio Sophy Hollington, Hollie Warren and Suki Sou. They met in Brighton and formed the band after they all moved up to the capital. After spending months in each other's bedrooms writing and listening to bands like Polvo, Guided by Voices, Broadcast, Calico Wall and My Bloody Valentine, they decided to put a band together themselves. They released their debut single 'The Things You Do' on Dirty Bingo records in August 2011, and were then featured on a Marshall Teller split single with Gross Magic, The History of Apple Pie and Echo Lake.
After spending January 2012 in the studio with Rory Attwell, Novella released their first EP in May this year on Italian Beach Babes. The EP demonstrates what they're best at- it is a fusion of psychedelic stylings and 'ferocious riffage'- as described by FACT magazine, that draws from a long lineage of often overlooked alternative indie rock. With influences spanning the classic 4AD sound to Flying Nun to Brian Jonestown Massacres 'Methodrone' album. Described by NME as "London's most ubiquitous band", Novella have toured with Dum Dum Girls and Veronica Falls, and so far this year have played gigs across the UK as well as performances at festivals like The Great Escape and Camden Crawl. They are currently writing and recording new material, for release later this year.
