The annual Pop Montreal International Music Festival will take place 21-25 September at several venues in the titular North American locale.

Film, visual arts, all-night parties and children’s fare are scheduled alongside performances by a wide variety of indie pop/rock groups, solo artists and DJs, including headliners The Arcade Fire who will play two shows along with helping to organize a charity basketball game. Also scheduled to play the fest, now in its ninth year, are Stephen Malkmus, Cave, Girls, Yuck, Dominique Young Unique, Ford & Lopatin, The Raincoats, Redd Kross, Boot Camp Clik, Chromeo, Peter Hook and Joe Bataan.

Another musical highlight of Pop Montreal is the return of Patrick Watson's Sacred Sunday. Watson, a Montreal-based singer-songwriter, has organized (for the second year in a row) an afternoon of religious music at Ukrainian Federation: Exclaim Venue  beginning at 4:30pm on 25 Sept. Joining Watson will be Katie Moore, Alden Penner, Amy Millan of Stars, Ariel Engle, The Every Kid and Senior's Choir with Li'l Andy. Last year, the program featured Arvo Pärt's "Fratres for String Quartet," Watson's piano arrangement of "The Lord's Prayer," Bach’s “St. Matthew’s Passion” and a rousing, set-closing “Old Time Religion,” a spiritual recorded by the likes of Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash and Pete Seeger.
