“My Dad's a big vinyl collector, and I remember going into countless record shops all over town with him growing up. I don't remember going into any big ones really, independent record shops have always been important. They are the only place I buy my records from."
– Isaac, singer and drummer in Slaves.
Record Store Day 2017 champions Slaves launched this year’s list of exclusive releases in their typically raucous fashion last night with a set in the basement of East London’s Ace Hotel.
Having recently been away on tour in America, Kent lads Slaves expressed how much they missed being on home soil and how happy they were to be back performing in London.
The band performed a mix of tracks from debut album ‘Are You Satisfied?’ and sophomore ‘Take Control’ alongside a new track entitled ‘Play Dead’.

The band also announced a limited number white vinyl, gold-foil edition of their ‘Take Control’ album that includes an exclusive photobook for Record Store Day.
Their expanded 2016 hot pink vinyl Record Store Day edition of ‘Are You Satisfied’ was limited to 500 pieces and sold out almost immediately.
The 2017 longlist features plenty of surprises, with highlights including a The Smiths 7” featuring previously unreleased recordings of ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ and ‘Rubber Ring’, ‘God Save The Sex Pistols’ - the original version of what became the Sex Pistols’ debut album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks’ on 180mg black vinyl and Manchester-based newcomers Cabbage debut album ‘Young, Dumb and Full Of…’ on stunning orange vinyl.
We will select our highlights from the 2017 long list in more detail later in the year.
