rROXYMORE’s music is a intriguing one-off blend of contrasting textures - organic and synthetic, icy and warm - a fresh future step in dance music.

rRoxymore, aka Hermione Frank, released her epic 10 minute debut “Wheel of Fortune” in the summer of 2012, which came via a split 12” alongside Planningtorock’s ‘Patriarchy Over & Out” (Human Level / DFA Records).

Returning to Planningtorock’s Human Level label, rRoxymore will release her first official EP entitled “Precarious/Precious”, featuring four tracks that combine nervous grooves, witchy cosmic synth lines, twisted snippets of acoustic instruments, and other signature sounds.

Hermione Frank began producing music back in Montpellier together with a friend in a disused garage - a starting point that can still be traced within the atmosphere of her music. Her music maintains a raw, almost dirty quality, which merges uniquely together with deeply stirring and psychedelic energy. Back in the garage where Frank made her first musical steps, she was using the Akai 950 and Cubase on Atari - these two instruments allowed her to dig deep into sample culture. In these early days, Frank was also DJing in and around Montpellier, mixing organic jazz and funk with electronic grooves.

Between long raves, diaphoretic live shows, DJ sets, garage sessions and countless hours in the studio, Frank soon left all sampling behind and began to play feelings direct via her synthesises.

In title track “Precarious/Precious”, Frank sings with a madcap soul quality, which, until now, only artists such as Cassy have managed to achieve with an equal depth for the dance floor. Three of the four tracks are highly energetic which provoke physical reactions almost instantly. Sun-Ra’s cosmic world is in there as well as a careless driving party spirit of Berlin’s nightlife. The closing track on the EP, “Lonely Ritournelle XIII”,is practically meditative and enriched with a fine textured stillness and introspection that leaves enough space for the listeners own individual emotions.

rROXYMORE’s music is a intriguing one-off blend of contrasting textures - organic and synthetic, icy and warm - and its hard to pigeonhole. You can describe her art of dance music as a symphony of machines and instruments that sonically illustrate the rhythms of rROXYMORE 's soul. Or you can call it a fresh future step in dance music.
