Fashion Stylist — Singapore
A Bella Photo
Name, what do you do?
I’m Isabella — mostly just go by Bella — and I’m a Fashion Stylist based in Singapore.
Describe your style in three words?
I’d think my personal style and my work are pretty different. My personal style is usually just neutrals, monochromatic, luxe minimalist (for a lack of a better word).
What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
It has not changed much over the years, which is what makes it such a classic. The vintage sports style has made a comeback this year; the Fred Perry Shirt will make a great piece to have in the wardrobe.
Which music defines the teenage you?
Emo genres definitely. I was into the whole dark eyeliner, black nails and skinny jeans, accompanied with some good ol’ Saosin, My Chemical Romance playing on my headphones (lol).
What inspires your work?
Many things! I remember going to the aquarium and ended up taking photos of the corals and fishes that have the most amazing colour combinations for future shoot reference haha!
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I think watching RuPaul’s Drag Race has inspired me greatly. The amazing DIY things drag queens are able to come up with on a dime made me want to cut up/sew/glue pieces together too. There's a whole lot of artistry in what they do and I have nothing but respect for them.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Born to be Blue' by Chet Baker.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
If I could spend an hour with anyone, the first person that comes to mind is Martin Margiela. Not sure if this answers the question because he’s still around but he’s a living genius and it would be an absolute dream come true.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Made In Heights. Unfortunately, they’ve disbanded and are no longer on Spotify - at least they’re still on YouTube!
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'POV' by Ariana Grande. She’s my guilty pleasure.
'One Out of Two' by Breakbot, Irfane.
A feel-good track that also always takes me back to the amazing time I’ve had in Seoul with one of my best friends.
'Fall Creek Boys Choir' by James Blake, Bon Iver.
Easily one of my favourite Bon Iver collaborations.
'Casio' by Jungle.
'Heat Waves' by Glass Animals.
'Tieduprightnow' by Parcels.
'Déjate Llevar' by The Marías.
María Zardoya from The Marías is quite honestly my muse because she not only writes and sings but also styles the band’s music videos.
'Fou' by L’Imperatrice.
I had to include L’Imperatrice in this list because I love everything about them — their sound, their impeccable fashion, conceptual collaterals.
'Cool Cat' by Queen.
The most interesting sounding track from Queen and perhaps my favourite.
'Back Pocket' by Vulfpeck.
'Backlash' by Jaye.
One of my favourite local tracks I’ve heard thus far, not because this is a client of mine but I just love the mashup of genres. Pleasure being able to style for this too!
'It Runs Through Me' by Tom Misch, De La Soul.
'Bust Your Kneecaps' by Pomplamoose.
