A Waldo’s Gift Photo
Name, where are you from?
Waldo’s Gift, Bristol.
Describe your style in three words?
Normcore, oversized, chef.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Colossal Squid at The Gallimaufry in Bristol, because it was dope as hell. And hell is dope.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
System of a Down and Claude Debussy. We’d play first of course. Then System could get everyone riled up for a good bit of Claude to end the night.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
The London hardcore/post-punk scene 100%. Bay Area thrash metal. Both for their unapologetic energy. Also living in Bristol, it’s impossible not to soak up the incredibly rich electronic scene in this city. The UK jazz scene has a wonderful energy too :)
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Gotama the Illustrious One. Because he’s the Buddha.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
We LOVE Koko in Camden. Such a beautiful space, we can’t wait for it to reopen. We haven’t played but that’s definitely a bucket list show. But also we wouldn’t exist without The Gallimaufry in Bristol, our spiritual home.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Peggy Segeer. She is basically the don. Just listen to the track 'When I Was Single'.
Waldo's Gift released their new EP 'Normflex' in October 2021. Listen, purchase or stream it via fanlink.to/Normflex.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Me Yesterday//Corded' by Flying Lotus.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Heaven is a Halfpipe' by OPM. Definitely still in primary school when that came out though.
One record you would keep forever?
'Slate-Coloured Storm' by Abul Mogard.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Beverly Hills. That’s where I want to be"
From 'Beverly Hills' by Weezer.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Edge of Seventeen' by Stevie Nicks.
A song you wished you had written?
'LesAlpx' by Floating Points.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Dissociate' by Pathogen.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Don’t Start Now' by Dua Lipa.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'In The End' by Linkin Park.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Grook' by Snazzback, China Bowls.
'Next To The Mirror' by t l k.
'Empty Hands' by Ishmael Ensemble.
'Ur Boyfriend’s Wack' by Grove.
'The end of me' by MĀDŁY.
'We Are Really Worried About You' by Divide and Dissolve.
