A Birthh Photo
My name is Alice and I was born in Florence, Italy on October 17th 1996.
Cosmic musical colours.
Janelle Monáe’s set at Primavera Sounds in 2019 was hands down the most exciting gig I’ve ever been to. I didn’t know all the songs she performed but the energy on stage was mind-blowing and even if everything was choreographed, it never felt gimmicky or unnatural.
Stevie Wonder and Chet Baker.
Absurdism and jazz rap.
Leonardo Da Vinci.
Botanique in Brussels is a great one. After my show, the caretaker took me on a little tour of the building, which was previously an orangerie, and told me a bit about all the amazing artists who performed there. It’s a legendary venue with an incredible legacy, Prince performed three sets during the course of five hours just so that he could play in the prettiest hall where the maximum capacity was 400 people.
I would probably say Mort Garson, his album 'Plantasia' is a stunning musical journey that was recorded specifically for plants, it came out in 1976 and was made entirely with monophonic modular synthesisers. Every melody and every sound choice feel so in tune with the universe. It’s truly otherworldly.
Raised in Florence, Neo-soul artist, Birthh (real name Alice Bisi) was first inspired to play music by her father’s love of Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. She started writing songs as a child and that ability flourished as she grew up. Her latest single 'Yello / Concrete' is out now, demonstrating her command of pop, soul, electronic and organic elements.
'Put Your Records On' by Corinne Bailey Rae.
'Kill the Director' by the Wombats. During my high school years, I would go home in the afternoon and just dance to 'A Guide to Loss, Love and Desperation' in my room pretty much every day.
'Blonde' by Frank Ocean, I think we all agree it’s one of the greatest pieces of music of the decade.
“Exist in superposition, life’s all about contradiction, yin and yang fluidity in things.
I’m me, I’m God I’m everything, I’m my own reason why I sing, and so are you, are you understanding?"
'Superposition' by Daniel Caesar.
'Moody’s Mood for Love' by King Pleasure. The way the vocal melody flows and changes continuously in a natural way can perfectly keep you interested and submerged in the song from start to finish.
'Diorama' by Choker, the last 2.30 minutes of the song make my heart dance.
'Off Deez' by JID with J. Cole.
'Rock With You' by Michael Jackson.
'Shimbalaiê' by Maria Gadu.
I’m listening to Orion Sun a lot recently, she’s a very talented producer/musician/artist based in Philadelphia, she’s gonna blow up someday, trust me. There’s also this incredible producer/rapper/singer/engineer from South London, his name is Richard Carter, we met on Instagram and we started collaborating. I’m so happy I found him, he’s my musical twin.
