A James Nelson-Joyce Photo
James Nelson Joyce, I am from the best city in the world: Liverpool.
Lazy, scruffy, lazy.
Deacon Blue at the Liverpool Echo arena at Christmas time with my dad and two sisters. The atmosphere was bouncing! Deacon Blue is always on in the car and it’s just like Karaoke!
Shane Meadows, Ken Loach and Steve McQueen.
The Temptations, The Beatles and The Platters. Just imagine the soul! Can I add Smokey Robinson as the writer as well, please?
To be honest, I was brought up in a house with an eclectic taste, it would go from Marvin Gaye then to Finbar Furey then to Toots and The Maytals then to Simon and Garfunkel so there was never one subculture that grabbed me. Although maybe when I was 15/16 I was engrossed in west coast hip-hop.
Easy Marvin Gaye the greatest voice of all time!!
Lionel Richie at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a max one, I was in LA and my mate goes "Wanna see Lionel Richie tonight?" I jumped at the chance and he was like "Cool, we’re going to Paul Oakenfold’s house and we’re gonna eat pizzas and watch from his garden which overlooks the bowl." It’s safe to say that’s a once in a lifetime moment!
David Ruffin, his voice was like velvet and full of soul, he was taken from us too soon.
James Nelson Joyce is currently starring alongside Stephen Graham and Sean Bean in the BBC drama 'Time'.
James is also set to star alongside Jack O'Connell (as Bez and Sean Ryder respectively) in the upcoming Happy Mondays biopic 'Twisting My Melon'.
'Show Me Love' by Steve Angello, Laidback Luke.
'Respect' by The Notorious B.I.G (I know all the words).
'You’ll Never Walk Alone' by Gerry Marsden.
“I said something wrong now I long for yesterday”
From 'Yesterday' by The Beatles - what a lyric!
'I Follow Rivers - The Magician Remix' by Lykke Li. You know why B!
'Grace' by Jim McCann.
'Cocaine Blues' by Johnny Cash.
'Picking Up the Pieces' by Paloma Faith (Paloma is incredible).
'Honey' by Robyn.
'Susannah' by Ryan McMullan.
