Describe your style in three words?
Whatever I like.
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever - Remastered 2009
The track I chose was from my Dad's record collection... and I still have the record today. The Beatles were always played at home or in the car along and Strawberry Fields always had a child-like and emotive quality to it that grabbed both my ears and my imagination.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
The Flaming Lips - The Spark That Bled
It's a tough call because I have many favourite albums including Stone Roses, Television and Pink Floyd but this track is a special one as it has an emotional and hopeful vibe to it whilst also suggesting that the writer has totally deluded himself..
A song from your most memorable gig?
Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever
My mate, Rob used to write gig reviews for the Manchester Evening News so I went to loads of gigs with him during the '00s. Most memorable was watching The Courteeners play at the MEN Arena... they made the place feel very small and intimate.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Maceo And The Macks - Cross The Tracks (We Better Go Back)
I don't dance... But if I did, I'd dance to this.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Claude Fontaine - Cry for Another
Johnny Marr's latest - Armatopia and Crow's Perch by Black Midi are worthy listens too.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Count Five - Psychotic Reaction - Rarities Version
I asked Miles Kane about him choosing this song on his playlist... I suspect that, like me, he heard this when listening to the Nuggets Compilation. I'll copy him... it's a great song that needs to be played more!
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
Inspiral Carpets - She Comes In the Fall
The teenage version of me was around during the Madchester era of the '90s - I had a massive mop of blonde hair and the widest parallel flare that Stolen from Ivor would sell me. She Comes in the Fall was the first records I ever bought along with 'Elephant Stone' by Stone Roses.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
George Harrison - Awaiting On You All
The message, the uplifting gospel flavor, the Motown feel of production and the coolest Beatle all make this an excellent under-the-radar track that needs to be discovered.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Smiths - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - 2017 Master
I'm sure many an Indie Disco has ended with this tune...
