What do you do?

Singer, songwriter and derivatives trader (Yes! I'm a slashie!)

Where are you from?

Taipei, Taiwan

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Dua Lipa in Taipei in 2018.

Which subcultures have influenced you?

Synthwave and synth pop. The use of synthesizer opens up a lot of potentials in music.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?

The Wake-Up Festival in Chiayi – the pouring rain over the weekend left the ground muddy. It was hard not to step into mud but my memory of it is so unique and wonderful.

If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?

A-ha. I first heard their music from the movie La La Land. It would be interesting to sing ‘Take on Me’ with them.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?

I’ve always been interested in the Tudor Dynasty. Thomas Crommwell was a statesman and principle advisor who served King Henry VIII. He challenged authorities and public opinions at that time. I’d love to have English style afternoon tea with him and chat over how he survived the distrusts and harshness in the royal palace.

Your greatest unsung hero (or heroine) in music?

My music producer. From the initial making of a song until completion of an album, he spends hours to create everything that’s there. From composing to deciding a theme for the album and mixing it.

04Playlist Notes

What is the concept of the playlist?

Bouncy!

The first track you played on repeat?

‘Complicated’ by Avril Lavigne.

A song that defines the teenage you?

‘Beautiful Soul’ by Jesse McCartney.

One record you would keep forever?

Head in the Clouds II, the collaboration album from 88rising.

A song lyric that has inspired you?

‘Low Key’ by Niki, a member with 88rising.

Best song to turn up loud?

‘Acid Dream’ by Max and Quinn.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?

‘This is How you Fall in Love’ by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutlerz. I usually don’t enjoy music that’s too soft, but this song truly relaxes the body and mind.

New bands you are listening to now?

I’ve been addicted to Ylona Garcia recently. Her sophisticated handling of sound is super impressive. What a voice!
