A Saloon Dion Photo
Name, where are you from?
Saloon Dion, Bristol.
Describe your style in three words?
Luxurious yet casual.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Luke says The Cribs with Johnny Marr at O2 Bristol and Dave says Aphex Twin at Field Day.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Robbie Williams, 'Let Me Entertain To You' is a banger and Kylie Minogue, she’d get the crowd going.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Punk, disco, hip-hop. To be honest I think we’ve got a bit of everything in there. Tom says he takes a lot of inspiration from artists like the Beastie Boys, just singing about everyday stuff.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
An hour with David Blaine suspended above the Thames.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Island, Bristol - it’s just so loud and so dark or V11, Rotterdam - it’s a boat! we had a great gig there and the boat didn’t sink, which was a bonus.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
We once met a bloke in Blackburn that carried a bag of gravy all the way from Harrogate to London just so his mum could feed it to the dog.
Saloon Dion will release their new track 'Hey Hey' on 23rd February 2022 via Nice Swan Records. Listen, purchase or stream it via linktr.ee/saloondion.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Macarena' by Los Del Rio. I didn’t play it but disco Dave (our town's resident DJ) certainly did.
A song that defines the teenage years?
'Fat Lip' by Sum 41 and 'Pain For Pleasure' at the end of that album, f*cking love it to this day.
One record you would keep forever?
'Speaking In Tongues' by Talking Heads. I’ve listened to it a million times and it just gets better every time I do.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Keep rollin’ rollin’ rollin’ rollin’"
From 'Rollin’' by Limp Bizkit.
A song that would get you straight on the dancefloor?
'Born Slippy' by Underworld. Enough said (also anything by ABBA).
A song you wished you had written?
'Birthday' or 'Helter Skelter' by The Beatles. In awe of how that song just keeps getting bigger and bigger as it rolls through the sections.
Best song to turn up loud?
'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath. Absolute window smasher.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Milkshake' by Kelis. Although after reading the rest of this I think that is quite expected.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'We Are The Champions' by Queen. Karaoke version.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Services' by Divorce.
'The Smoke' by The Smile.
'Bitter' by Plastics.
'Walking Wires' by High Vis.
