Where are you from?
I hail from Camberwell, South East London.

What do you do?
I'm the Trombonist in a band called Chainska!

Describe your style in three words?
Urban. Diverse. Swagalicious.

If you could make a record with anyone from history?
It's so tough to decide who from history is like to record with or work with as there's so many...
This year Chainska won a world reggae competition that took us to Jamaica where we got to record at the legendary Harry J Studio with Stephen Stewart. The studio had seen the likes of Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Gregory Isaacs and Stephen was an epic person/producer. The whole thing felt like a pretty surreal journey into History.

What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
When on tour I miss the comfort of my bed and general sanity.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
In terms of best gig there have been loads, but when I was about 13 I saw Iggy Pop at Glastonbury. He instigated a stage invasion and I just remember the atmosphere being insanely raucous; a young taste of Rock n Roll.

What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Chainska being a ska-reggae outfit, it's hard not to be influenced by two-tone movement and above all The Specials.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
An hour with Shakespeare would be an interesting one as he was an artist, way ahead of his time; he also liked to get drunk!

Chainksa Brassika is a new school ska outfit from London. Their second album 'Harry J Business' which was recorded at the iconic Harry J Studio's in Kingston, Jamaica, will be released late in 2017. The lead track featuring the legendary Toots (of Toots & The Maytals) was released in December 2016 and can be listened to below.

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
I remember loving Tom Jones and the Cardigans 'Burning Down The House' as a kid. That tune came out in 1999 so I was 8!

One record you would keep forever?
'Superstylin' by Groove Armada is a song I would keep forever. For me, it's the best dance track in history.

A song you wish you had written?
A song I wish I had written would be 'Ghost Town' by The Specials, it was not only a fat tune but it also marked a political moment in time and got to number 1!

A song that defines the teenage you?
Back in those long-haired days, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers were big but for me, my early teenage years were all about the Libertines!

A song lyric that inspires you?
The lyric I would choose is...

"One good thing about music
when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

'Trenchtown Rock' by Bob Marley & The Wailers.

4 songs you can’t stop listening to right now?

'Ravers Delight' by General Roots
A modern reggae-disco tribute guided by Dennis Bovell.

'Mus Come A Road' by Mr Vegas
Fat tune from the Island star.

'Imaginary People' by Resonators
A fantastic new album from a legendary dub band.

'Black Focus' by Yussef Kamal
Yussef is blazing hot at the moment also a good friend.
