Introduce yourself
I’m Claudia Low - Head of Content at a digital agency called Lion & Lion by day, and a theatre actress on weeknights and weekends.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Oversized and slightly off-beat.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
I got into tennis around the time I was finishing high school, which made the Fred Perry shirt relevant to me as I started expanding my personal style and interests. It could be worn preppy or punk, which at the time, were looks I was experimenting with. I still always come back to polo shirts, and though I style them differently these days, I appreciate how iconic pieces remain unchanging.

What is the first song you played on repeat?
I know Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall was the first cassette I ever owned, so it’s probably a track off it - I want to say “Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough” because it’s the first track on the album and would have been the easiest to rewind and press play.

What is one record you would keep forever?
I wanted to list a Beyonce album so bad, but the Beatles’ Revolver has stood the test of time.

What is a song lyric that has inspired you?
Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” -
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow I
it's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

What has been the best gig you’ve been to?
I just got back from Fuji Rock Festival and can that entire experience count?! Japan is a crazy organized, clean country where everything makes sense and is considered, and Fuji Rock is just that. You’re surrounded by nature, everyone has etiquette, the set-up and production unparalleled - it’s a different level and was hands down, one of the best experiences I’ve had in this lifetime. And the line-up… This year was such a good year to go!

But if I had to single out a specific gig, while waiting for N.E.R.D to come on, by chance, we caught this local act, Sakanaction, who blew all our minds. They played fusions of so many different genres, had the production value of Coldplay live, and their music and presence just… shifts you somehow. They commanded and uplifted the crowd. We didn’t understand a single word, but we were completely transfixed. It was insane.

Who is your ultimate British musical icon?
They belonged to the world really, but Queen hand’s down!

A song that defines the teenage you?
Maybe Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know”? We always had Jagged Little Pill playing around the house, and that song, in particular, was one my sister, mum and I would sing along to as women. Really feeling it, you know? Like an anthem - for scorned women. I was maybe 9 or 10 at the time, but it’s just such an angsty track! It made me feel like a teenager!

What inspires you?
Nature, relationships, music, experiences, reactions… I like seeing everything for the first and last time - slowing down moments and savouring them. When that’s your outlook, there’s inspiration in everything.

04Playlist Notes

'Juicy' - The Notorious BIG
When I was in school, everyone was a Tupac fan, which made it a little embarrassing for me to admit that I was more about Biggie’s music. After watching Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious BIG on Netflix, I started listening to both of them again, and BIG’s essentials just put a big smile on my face. It was such a great joy, listening to songs I used to love but hadn’t heard in such a long time.

'LOVEHAPPY' - The Carters
While Lemonade (2016) explored a marriage hanging by a string, I remember hearing “Jealous” on Beyoncé (2014) for the first time, and how that made me feel – the early signs of suspicions and that weird feeling in your gut. It’s been four long years, “LOVEHAPPY” is like a victory lap for Beyoncé and Jay-Z, a celebration of their marriage’s strength and the work they’ve put into choosing to be together. I’m all for that.

'King Kunta' - Kendrick Lamar
We caught Kendrick at Fuji Rock right when a typhoon hit Japan, and completely just lost the plot. If I could, this entire playlist would have been all Kendrick!

'Dang!' - Mac Miller feat. Anderson .Paak
Anderson .Paak makes my knees go weak. This track captures all the reasons why – silky, funky soul with influences of electro and jazz… and this amazing hook. And then you realise that he wrote the track for the people in his life who’ve passed away. But you vibe with it, so it’s all good. There’s only one like Anderson .Paak, we must protect him at all costs!

Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)' - Chic
There is nothing like a little disco, cooking in the kitchen after a long day of work.
