Name?
Danny Goffey

Where are you from?
Somerset. Previously in the suburbs.

Describe your style in three words?
Not quite right.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Inspiral Carpets at Jericho Tavern, Oxford. It was my first real glimpse of a loud punky live band and it inspired (no pun) me to get my own band going.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Who - Late 60's for the raucousness and to watch Moon going for it.
David Bowie - Thin White Duke era for the glamour!

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Probably the 'Shoegazers' followed by the 'Madchester' scene when I was a teenager. The Stiff records scene with the likes of Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and Devo. I was also a part of the illegal rave scene. Spiral Tribe and all that stuff.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
There's way too many to name but I'd love to have had an hour with Bowie. I met him once when we played at his Meltdown Festival, but 5 minutes wasn't enough!

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Troubadour in LA. Loads of history with a great intimate feel. Good night guaranteed.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Not sure if he is that unsung but I have a soft spot for Elliot Smith. He sadly died young but overcame a tough life to make some brilliant albums and I'm sure he'd be making great music if he was still around today.

Danny Goffey is best known as the drummer in Supergrass. Since Supergrass parted company in 2010 Danny has been pursuing his other musical projects and his latest album 'Schtick!' will be released by Distiller Records on 22nd June 2018. Find out more & pre-order the album at dannygoffey.com.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
‘Come On Eileen’ by Dexys Midnight Runners.

A song that defines the teenage you?
‘Alright’ by Supergrass. Literally! But let's go for… 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' by Ian Dury.

One record you would keep forever?
‘Moonage Daydream’ from 'Ziggy Stardust' by David Bowie.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“The empty-handed painter from your streets,
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets,
This sky, too, is folding under you,
And it's all over now, baby blue”

‘It’s All Over Now Baby Blue’ by Bob Dylan.

A song you wished you had written?
‘Teenage Kicks’ by The Undertones.

Best song to turn up loud?
‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
‘P.I.M.P’ by 50 Cent.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
‘Oh! Sweet Nuthin’ by Lou Reed / The Velvet Underground.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
‘Umbrella Pedestrian’ by Junior Bill and ‘When We Wake Up’ by Asylums.
