Name, where are you from?
My name is Novelist and I come from South East London, the borough of Lewisham.

What do you do?
I'm a producer, writer and a performance artist.

Describe your style in three words?
I would describe my style in 2 words..... original and authentic.

Which music defines the teenage you?
The music that most definitely describes my teenage years has got to be underground Grime without a doubt!

A British icon who has inspired you?
JME.

What has been your all-time favourite gig?
It’s hard to pinpoint one standalone all-time favourite gig but I remember performing at Nottingham Stealth in around 2015, that went off! Every London show is also special.

What do Independent Venues Mean to You?
Independent venues are reminiscent of the early days of my career, so definitely special in that regard.

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
Alchemist 'Hold You Down'.

A song you wish you'd written?
In truth, I've never had the thought that I wish I'd written a track of someone else's that I heard.

A song from your favourite album?
Dr Dre's Chronic Album is still a stand out album for me. My favourite track on there is 'Nothing But a G Thang'.

What is the last piece of music you bought?
I bought an album by Yutaka Yoko Kura. It's Japanese jazz. I actually bought the vinyl.

Best song to bring people together?
In my opinion, one of the best songs to bring people together at the moment is Sheck Wes 'Mo Bamba'.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
It's gotta be Sheck Wes 'Mo Bamba' again.

Best love song of all time?
Zapp's 'Computer Love'. Great tune, still sounds futuristic to me.

Is there a song you like that people wouldn't expect?
People are always surprised to find out that I love 'You and Me' by the Wannadies. It's got that feel good factor.

What new musicians/bands are you listening to?
I've been caught up in my own bubble working and haven't been listening to what's out there, but I'm looking forward to catching up on what's popping.
