The Surrenders

Musician — Gornal

Name, where are you from?
My Names Connor and I’m from Gornal.

Describe your style in three words?
Charity shop, Dapper.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Rolling Stones at Cardiff stadium, Jaggers dancing man.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Led Zeppelin - I love them but it’s purely for the after party man.
David Bowie - I’d use the time to try to steal some knowledge.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Beat culture has had a big influence on me. Most people seem to be influenced by it too, even if they don’t know it yet. And tattoo culture I suppose, its history is a rich tapestry and it's full of Bandits and Artists. Definitely not boring.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Hmmmm, I guess I’d meet Bruce Lee.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I love The Sunflower Lounge in Brum, if you get the right mix of booze and bodies in there you’re in for a right show.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mikey Jonns - Does more for new music than anyone I’ve ever met, Viva la Zona.

The first track you played on repeat?
'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Fell In Love With A Girl' by The White Stripes.

One record you would keep forever?
'Green Onions' by Booker T and the MG’s.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“There are words we both could say,
but don’t talk put your head on my shoulder.”

'Don't Talk' by The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'(Get Up) Sex Machine' by James Brown.

A song you wished you had written?
'Maggie's Farm' by Bob Dylan.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Search and Destroy' by The Stooges.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'It Ain’t Safe' by Skepta.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Good Night' by The Beatles.

Any new bands you are listening to right now?
'These Words' by The Lemon Twigs.
'Chevrolet Van' by The Nude Party.
'Come On Out' by The Americas.
