Name, where are you from?
I am Chris Bailey, the singer in Do Nothing, from Nottingham.
Describe your style in three words?
Divorced supply teacher.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I’ll say Caribou at Glastonbury a few years ago. We had just played that day (as part of an old project) so we were relaxed, it was during a very pretty sunset and they killed it. Dan Snaith was very smiley and the whole thing felt very wholesome.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Tom Waits and The Pop Group.
Waits because he’s the ultimate super genius, and The Pop Group because I just think it would be interesting. I’ve been told that Mark Stewart asks for two whole rotisserie chickens on his rider and eats them both all by himself.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I spend a large portion of my time ingesting completely useless information from the internet. There are a few particularly odd Tumblr subcultures that I’ve used as inspiration for various bits of writing - there are folks who consider themselves to be in a romantic relationship with a God, people who undergo a whole bunch of surgery to make themselves look like a Ken doll etc etc. All very interesting stuff.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Ric Flair because I need a good slap.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Brudenell in Leeds. It just has the perfect atmosphere. Always hosting great bands, selling reasonably priced pints and there are snooker tables.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Brian Protheroe has an absolute banger called 'Pinball', which as far as I can tell is about sinking pints.
Do Nothing will release their debut EP 'Zero Dollar Bill' on 10th April 2020. Listen, purchase or stream it via orcd.co/donothing.
