How would you describe your sound?

There are two sides to the sound of the album. One side is more minimal electronic soul and the other has more of a euphoric raw visceral tone. There are touches of darkness lyrically but ultimately for me it was about 'reconciling' and the journey back when I made this album.

Who did you grow up listening to?
I listened to a lot of different music growing up but I’d say artists and classic records such as Carol King’s Tapestry, Prince & D’Angelo and Ottis Redding made a massive impact. Great soul records have definitely always resonated with me. It’s the raw emotion vocally that just hits you and that’s something I really connected with.

What new music are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve got the new D’Angelo record on repeat at the moment. There’s a lot of new music that I’m really into as well such as Honne, Jack Garett and All We Are. Love what I’ve heard from them so far.

What's been the best show you've played recently and why?
I played in New York at Rockwood for the first time a couple of months ago. It was really cool to play an intimate set with just my keys player and have the freedom to strip everything back.

Who are your biggest style Icons?
Francoise Hardy & Jane Birkin. Their style really effortless and chic.

What's next for you?
The release of the album and then hopefully lots of touring. I’m heading back to the states soon as well to play some shows. I have also been as getting back in the studio to write with both mine and for some other projects.

If you could have any artist cover you, dead or alive who would it be?
I think if Prince covered any one of your songs it would be pretty insane!

1. Honne - Warm On A Cold Night (Embody Remix)
I came across Honne a few months ago and fell in love with their sound. Embody did a remix of one of my tracks earlier this year as well and I really love his take on this song.

2.Flying Lotus - Tea Leaf Dancers
My keys player introduced me to this song. We used to have it on loop when travelling to shows. Such a cool sound production wise.

3. Carol King - So Far Away
Tapestry is such an incredible body of work. Listening to that album definitely had a major impact on me as a songwriter.

4. D’Angelo - Untitled
I remember going to see him play in Brixton a while ago and this song always brings back memories of that night. He played a stripped version of it on Rhodes which was just incredible. It’s just a classic for me that sounds as good now as the first time I heard it. I’ve got the new album ‘Black Messiah’ on repeat.

5. Prince - Controversy
My older sister used to play Prince records all the time in the house when I was growing up. She had a massive obsession with his music which definitely rubbed off on me.

6.All We Are - Feel Safe
I discovered this band when I heard their track ‘Utmost Good’ and fell in love with their sound. ‘Feel Safe’ is every bit as good so can’t wait to hear a full album.

7. Little Dragon - Twice
This band are effortlessly cool. I love how simple and beautiful this track is .

8.Portishead - Strangers
Beth Gibbons voice has just got that raw and honest emotion. Every Portishead song I know has the capacity to grab you from the very first line.

9. Al Green - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart
The vocals are so raw and emotional and just hits me from the very first line. It’s the kind of late night record you put on when no one else is around.

10. Lapalux - Without You
I first came across the video for this song a while ago and was mesmerised by it. There’s a darkness to it and I love how hypnotic the track feels.
