My Gold Mask

Tuesday 3rd June 2014

Chicago’s My Gold Mask has just dropped the standalone single “Dissipate.” Sanford Parker, known for his work with Chris Connelly, Corrections House and other artists associated with industrial rock and underground metal, produced the track.

When we first reported on My Gold Mask in early 2010, Gretta Rochelle (vocals, drums) and Jack Armondo (guitar) were riding a wave of buzz generated by a left field cover of the Kim Carnes hit “Bette Davis Eyes” and had just released the EP A Thousand Voices.

In the four year since that report, MGM has added a second percussionist and programmer (James Andrew), released an acclaimed LP entitled Leave Me Midnight, and dropped the digital singles “Dangerous” and “Severed.”

“Dissipate” is very much in the spirit of the band’s previous work (no, they have not gone metal and the industrial flourishes are very much in the vein of Depeche Mode rather than Throbbing Gristle), although Parker’s production has a muscular quality that fans of heavier music will likely embrace.

My Gold Mask plans on releasing another LP later this year, and will busy themselves on the road this month before performing at Riot Fest Chicago in September.
